iSolfeggio – Mobile and interactive learning of music theory through augmented reality

Problem Description

Music Theory (Solfeggio) with its musical activities focused on all levels of education promotes the development of musical aptitude, ability and knowledge. Today, students only have access to classic printed textbooks, which only provide a limited introduction to the understanding of musical notation. Classical teaching methods involve teachers playing an instrument in front of the students and listening to their sound. In Slovenia, as well as in Europe, computer-aided applications for enhanced learning of music theory are not widely used yet.

Solution

In this project, we are creating an innovative and interactive Solfeggio learning system. The project involves students from different areas od study (computer science, media communications and music pedagogy) who are collectively developing an app based on augmented reality. It uses the camera integrated in mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet enables to transform printed music notes and notations.
