The main objective of the e-NIZ R&D project was to collect relevant data on the facilities of the Technical Faculties, with the aim of creating an e-NIZ database. The database would consist exclusively of data related to the building structure (outer casing – thickness and type of material of external walls, thickness and type of insulation), leading to the acquisition of new knowledge and, in combination with data on energy consumption for heating, provide new insights. The results acquired in the e-NIZ model would be used by the client for knowledge management purposes.

The research and development project e-NIZ, which was created as a part of the Technical Faculty of the University of Maribor, included a non-trivial process of discovering implicit, hitherto unknown and potentially useful knowledge based on data (knowledge base).
