Why is digitalization and digital transformation important in the economy?

On the 9th of February 2021, at 9:00, ŠGZ is preparing an online workshop with the title “Why is digitalisation and digital transformation in the economy important?”.

The digital landscape is changing at an increased pace, and the pandemic has only accelerated this transformation. Such a revolution, however, is not a new occurrence and humanity has been facing challenges for millennia. One of the more well-known examples of the technological revolution that swept the world and changed both the functioning of companies and the jobs themselves was the industrial revolution.

Imagine how companies operated before the industrial revolution and after? Do you think that every manager was aware that investing in machines would bring them unimaginable advantages in the market? Much time has passed since then, but the fact remains that the key to making a businesses flourish was the mindset.

ADVANTAGES OF DIGITALIZATION from the viewpoint OF THE DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB UM

Given the current situation marked by a global pandemic, the digital transformation has proved to be the mantra of many local, regional as well as global experts, business people and decision-makers for several years prior. And while we now know that digital transformation is essential for many people to survive in business, the transformation is not happening fast and efficiently enough. The reason for the slow pace of transformation is associated with the answer to the question “What is digital transformation?” itself. For some companies it may be the introduction of an online store, but it can also be a more complex transformation in the direction of paperless business with the support of ICT, the use of digital twins for business optimization, the introduction of artificial intelligence for predictive analysis, etc.

All these forms of digital transformation require (high-tech and specialized) knowledge, experience, and support from the wider ecosystem, which is non-existent within companies (regardless of size). The goal of digital innovation hubs (DIH), such as the DIH of the University of Maribor (DIH UM), is to provide a supportive ecosystem that can act as a single points of entry for the effective implementation of the digital transformation.

DIH UM offers companies access to an extensive high-tech research infrastructure and highly-qualified staff (more than 1200 UM researchers), which can help companies in the “pre-innovation” testing and organize the necessary training for digital transformation, provide access to international partners through various international networks and many other services which will be presented during the event. In short, DIH UM helps companies solve the challenges associated with digital transformation.

The webinar will take place via the MS Teams app. To participate, you need a computer with an Internet connection, a microphone, a Google Chrome browser OR the MS Teams application.
