On Thursday, 8 May 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, an online professional-educational webinar titled Information and Cybersecurity in Our Lives: Invisible Traps and Risks will take place as part of the series of demystifying cybersecurity events. The seminar is an excellent opportunity for anyone wishing to better understand the challenges, risks, and solutions associated with information and cybersecurity in the modern digital world. In today’s society, where technology plays a central role, cybersecurity has become a critical factor in protecting our personal and business data. The seminar will explore how cybersecurity impacts our daily activities and how we can effectively protect devices, networks, and sensitive information from unauthorized access and abuse.
Special attention will be given to understanding the importance of the data we work with, as well as its proper management and classification. Sensitive data, such as personal or business information, requires additional security measures, including encryption, the use of strong passwords, and maintaining up-to-date protective systems. The seminar will also examine the most common threats, such as phishing scams, ransomware, identity theft, and system breaches, and present ways to avoid them.
Participants will also learn methods for assessing cybersecurity risks, which include identifying threats, analyzing vulnerabilities, and planning security measures. By properly assessing risks and applying best practices, the likelihood of security incidents can be effectively reduced, ensuring long-term protection of the digital environment.
The seminar will highlight the importance of awareness regarding dangers in the cyber realm and provide practical guidance for using technology safely.
Join the webinar to gain practical knowledge on how to protect your data, digital identity, and systems in a world where security is crucial, and ensure a safe future in the digital domain.
The webinar will be led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Markelj, Head of the Department of Information Security at the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of Maribor and one of Slovenia’s leading experts in information security. His work on mobile device security, cloud computing, and data protection sets high standards in the field. In 2022, he received the Privacy Ambassador award, presented by the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia, for successfully connecting stakeholders, organizing timely conferences, and working with youth in the field of information security. He is the author of numerous scientific articles and an active speaker at conferences both domestically and abroad. His work inspires and lays the foundation for a safer digital world.
